Are you taking about when KCEJ sends a telegram and sends the name of the
ship in the preamble as:

SSUNITEDSTATES

That's the way it's supposed to be sent. Telegraph Offices are sent as one
word. If the ship is ambiguous the callsign is appended like this:

SSUNITEDSTATES/KCEJ

The operator at WSL wasn't that good, but the guy at the New York Harbor
station, WSF was a real pro.

But GBTT and KCEJ were far better than you're apt to hear on the ham bands
except if you're listening to the Society of Wireless Pioneers net.
