I like the slang for a Bug as a "Rug Beater" I guess the
later slang of vacuum cleaner is derived from this but rug beater
makes sense while vacuum cleaner does not. Lets be modern, no one
beats rugs any more but the meaning is lost.
Also, another illustration is at:
<https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/junker_bu.html>
The note translated to English says:
the semi-automatic Junker morse key, "BUG" system, is little
known. Although its use was not permitted, it was used by the
radio operators in the 1950s for federal border protection. It
was known there as "Bäg" or "Frequency Cleaner" because you could
generate attention and listening with a string of points. The
button largely corresponds to the Vibroplex Lightning Bug, but
without the short-circuiter. In his catalog No. 30 from 1974,
Hannes Bauer offers the semi-automatic Morse key from Junker for
115, - DM.
Frequency cleaner makes more sense than vacuum cleaner, which
in any case is something else in German. I suspect "bag" with
umlaut over the A is pronounced close to Bug. I like "rug beater"
best.
