Hey DJ, thanks for this reference! I downloaded the Dutch copy - and even
that is a pretty good read - and I don't speak Dutch! Or at least I didn't
think I did.
Coincidentally, I had planned to be in Washington DC all this week at the
Smithsonian doing research on early development of telegraphy, going
through Vails jouirnals and papers; sigh... so, it was really great to find
this resource to get the juices flowing!
One thing: I discovered the author has a model of a device I've been trying
to track down for a couple of years now. Very exciting. I suspect the
equipment the Smimthsonian has, which is prurportedly the model used for
Morse's patent - may infact have been put together backward by a
technician at Western Union in the 1890s. The device in the book may shed
some light on that. I'm going to contact the author about that English
version. Would make reading a lot easier :-)
