Albion Lane had a beautiful fist, and he always used Modulated CW on 500 kHz when calling for his OBS and AMVER messages.
It gives me chils, too especially when I met Chief Mate Bob Cusick twice in the basement of my church.
I told him "I think we have something in common." - it only took 30 seconds to figure it out.
If you've not dug into this SOS, it's worth diving into. Bob Cusick and Captain Dominic Caliccahio,
USCG Marine Safety Office changed Marine Inspection in the USA. Capt. Caliccahio was formerly a US Merchant Mariner
before he went into the USCG Marine Safety Office, so he knew ships from both sides and at least on this one,
responsibility came straight down on the company who was told over and over again about the defective hatch covers.
I think he was also a Mustang - wasn't the graduate of one of the academies, Kings Point (United States Merchant Marine Academy, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, California, etc. He probably started as an Ordianary Seaman, got his Able Bodied Seaman's certification (green) then deep water (blue) then 3rd Mates license, 2nd Mates
license, then Chief Mates license, and finally Master's license, he sailed for U.S. Lines as Master.
God bless them both.

The Marine Electric came up some time ago and I found a good deal of material on the web relating to it including the complete records of the investigations. This is a very interesting site and a bit of a rabbit hole for those of interested in these things (certainly including me).
