I am not sure how to write a line above letters on a computer
although it can be done. It's a PITA on a typewriter. However,
the book I referred to uses brackets, as in [BT] to indicate the
characters are to be sent as a single signal. That's easy to do
and I think makes sense.
BTW, I looked over the abreviations in the late ITU document
someone linked, none of the urgent signals, XXX, TTT or even SOS
are there.
I think most of the combinations were meant to be easily
distinguished rather than to stand for anything.
