An 81-year-old man was found dead in a Dix Hills home this afternoon,
Suffolk County police confirmed.

Jack Rucker’s body was discovered at 48 Ormond St. soon after his neighbor,
Amit Beria, was asked to check on Rucker by one of Rucker’s sons, Bill, who
lives out of state and hadn’t heard from his father in two days.

Beriabegan knocking on Rucker’s front and then back doors, he said.

“I started yelling, ‘Jack! Jack!’ but nobody answered,” Beria, who lives
one house over, said.

Beria then contacted authorities, who arrived on-scene shortly after.

Suffolk County police officers on the scene said that it was difficult to
walk around inside of the home due to an apparent hoarding situation. As a
result, a hole had to be cut in the back of the home in order to remove
Rucker’s body. Suffolk County police officers, Huntington Public Safety
officials, the Suffolk County Medical Examiner and Suffolk County Emergency
Service officers assisted in removing Rucker from the home.

Suffolk County police said there is no criminal activity suspected in
Rucker’s death.

Beria said Rucker was an independent man. The two had lived next to each
other for the last eight years.

“Jack told me he was a mountain climber and that he traveled the world,”
Beria said. “The man lived. Not going to have Jack around is going to be
[sad]. He was a great guy.”
