I am visiting the US Patent Office in Alexandria VA.
It is now a six-building complex with a nice greenway or quadrangle,
and they have built into the cobbled sidewalks representations of
patents issued to various famous inventors.
I found Samuel F Morse's 1840 patent for the telegraph.
(image attached, I hope.) It is part of a "Walk of Progress" project
highlighting historical inventors and even the recent grant
of Patent No. 10 Million.
It was nice to see that originator of [CW] made the list,
and for those not in the know after a recent ruling (2014)
his patents are being used even to this day to invalidate
current patent applications in computer information transmissions
and protocols.
Think: You are sending "ones" and "zeroes" through a wire, or
if you are wireless you combine Morse's code with G. Marconi's
radio. There goes Bluetooth.
Using an existing technology faster than the prior art does
not by itself displace the prior art.
