[CW] DO you want to see WWV go away?

I would like to see Hans go away.
He's been a grumpy old contrarian getting his jollies by stirring the pot for years.
Take up model railroading Hans.

Your characterization of reasons to keep WWH and WWVH as "excuses" is offensive. And the idea the there are multiple other sources for time and frequency reference in invalid for people who only have HF receivers as their source.

Of course rig calibration in not the only use of WWV.

I'm a retired blue water mariner.  In other words, a "serious" user of WWV over several decades.

I know of no service provided by WWV that isn't readily available from multiple other sources (which do not consume millions of my tax dollars every year.)

The "check propagation" excuse is particularly lame, especially for hams.  Using WWV/WWVH you can check propagation to exactly 2 locations in the world, and none of them on amateur frequencies.  The NCDXF/IARU beacon system (https://www.ncdxf.org/beacon/beaconlocations.html) provides propagation beacons on 5 amateur bands and from nearly 20 locations worldwide on every continent.  Each beacon is transmitted at 4 power levels between 100mW and 100W.

For those hams who have no other source of accurate time, may I suggest CHU, JJY, BPM, RWM, or ATA.  Like WWV, the transmit accurate time on multiple MF/HF frequencies, all at 10KW, none of them on my tax dollar.

Calibration of rigs is not the only use of WWV.  Most people use it to simply check the time against their clocks, even in this age of computers, as not everyone has one available.  It is also used to check out propagation.  You listen to the different freqs, and that tells you what is open to their particular area.
