[CW] Sending the Spaces When Transmitting Morse Code

Your comment about "sending the spaces" reminded me of one of the
articles I wrote maybe 10 years ago for Sierra Signals, the monthly
newsletter of the Sierra Foothills ARC in Auburn CA.  It is attached,
thought you might enjoy it.  Mine was publiished in April. [:-)

Having a computer in 2008, I decided to verify by simulation if W6ZMZ
was right and if you actually "sent the spaces" you were guaranteed to
get perfect Morse.  While I don't know if A. F. Scotten really ever
existed, it turned out to be true, except at the beginning and end of
a transmission.  If the circuit could anticipate you starting a
transmission and key the carrier at the right time, and if the carrier
could be dropped automatically at the end, it produced totally perfect
Morse.  I couldn't figure out how to do that and shelved the project.
