I suppose I shouldn't mention what frequencies we used during the Vietnam war if we had trouble maintaining Comms with our ships from NAVCOMSTA JAPAN on the authorized frequencies, most of which were jammed by the Ruskies and others!George Merkle, N0GM

Reminds me of my time up in Tacoma area, after my army duty was over.  I was a ham then, and had only a small crystal controlled rig, and a dozen or so crystals.  One of them was a favorite with Novices, and there were a bunch using that freq on 80.  Then in moved the blahs, beeps, burps, and whatever.  I contacted the FCC, the State Department, local officials, federal officials, etc, and of course no one wanted to do anything about the Chinese trawlers just off the coast.   We continued to try to use the freq, but it was almost worthless, but a group of us got on and called cq cq cq constantly hoping to get through - actually hoping to drive them off. And then one dark and cloudy night, with storms all over the place, it happened.  One of the ships got holed, and apparently couldn't get through to their net control for help.  The next night, they never showed up on the freq again, and we heard them just below the 80 meter band.  A FCC monitoring station, where I had a friend, monitored them too, and he later told me that the ship went down, and they lost it.  I dont think they lost crew, and hoped not, but was very glad they learned a lesson.  They didn't have to use the freq, not being crystal controlled, but were dumb enough to do so, cause someone said to.  Also, they were in our waters, and I suspect stayed there.

Deception?  You weren't the  guy who when they were still using Morse on fishing vessels, said "Hey, we have quite a catch over here in Lat. Long. so much fish we cannot count...'' and wait for No-No MARU to haul anchor and proceed in that direction  are you?
Oh, yeah, being a spook you can't say, and if you told me, you'd have to put QRM in my ears.
I got it now.
They really did do those things in the 1930s on fishing ships with Morse.
