I used to use Blu-Tack for such that Steve N4LQ describes in his excellent video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUHFLRnrWSQ about converting a Vibroplex to a cootie, even though I never went so far to do what our friend, Steve did.
I used bread wrapper twist ties and sometimes solder and maybe some foam rubber under the dot spring, but I had other uses for the tack putty material, including one that is "key related".
Recently I needed some of that stuff, but I couldn't find my favorite brand, "Bostick Blu-Tack" so I bought "Elmer's Tac 'N Stik Reusable Adhesive" and there is also "Loctite Fun-Tak".
I found the Elmers Tac 'N Stik at Staples office supply store, it was in the art supplies section and I almost didn't see it as I believe it was either near glue or tape, and I wasn't expecting Elmer's the glue maker to have this putty product.
All the above are available at Amazon and other places, but Staples had the Tac 'N Stik and I bought it. I like the Blu-Tack better.
What I did that was key related is that I make a thin snake out of Blu-Tack and then wrap it around Vibroplex weight fixing screws, and screw them into the weight. I tend to adjust my bug speed frequently so I adjust the settings often. In time the Blu-Tack needs replacing but while it's there, it stops the weights from loosening while the pendulum bangs the contacts, I find the constant loosening of the weights to be a frustration.
I also found a recipe for making your own poster tack at home:

You will see the other products at the bottom of this Amazon page for Blu-Tack. I suspect that they all will work as will the recipe I gave above.
