I called TRIMM Libertyville, IN when I was on a ship in 1987 or so and
ordered a pair of single phono pins to phono tips (these were small pieces
of round metal where the stranded copper and mercurized threads were
crimped and it slipped into a mating hole in the headset) the phono pins
were used originally in some radio sets but later were just used to connect
the headphones to a phone plug. The right angle Trimm plug was made by
Switchcraft and had a hole in the external plastic cover which the pig tail
of fabric at the end of the cord could be tied so the pins would not be
pulled out. The headsets likewise had similar holles where the other pig
tail of mercurized cotton could be fixed so that the phono tips would not
be pulled out from the headset.

When I called I spoke to the owner who had been there since the 1940s, but
soon afterwards, I heard the company had been sold.

The next time I called to buy cords, I was referred to a man from Albany,
NY who made vinal covered cords with pins and tips. The days of the very
flexible mercuriized cotton cords was over.

Then in the 1990s the man from Albany was gone.

I understand that TRIMM also sold headsets to language labs to schools like
high schools, etc. where students would listen to foreign languages.
