[CW] Amateur Radio Parity Act Receives Favorable House Energy and Commerce Committee Report

I think the pre-Parity Act situation is much better than what the new situation will present.  Admittedly, I am new to amateur radio… but reading the e-mails on this subject below gives me the impression that currently the only “enforcer” is any HOA that objects to a rule-breaking antenna installation.

Under the new system, the “enforcer” becomes the FCC.  The folks at the FCC are going to be totally against any amateur radio operator that had not received pre-approval from their HOA for any antenna installation.  'Cause “its the rules” and the FCC will want to demonstrate that they are only enforcing the rules.

Me?  I would rather have an HOA on my back than any government entity like the FCC.  I also believe the following motto applies to cranky, power-wielding HOA busybodies that want nothing more than to make themselves look important to their neighbors: “It is better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.”  I would rather not be forced, by an FCC regulation, to tell them about my personal hobbies and interests.

Taken to the logical state of equilibrium, what may happen over time is that the majority of amateur radio operators will become those that live in the non-HOA suburbs and rural towns.  No one is going to want the HOAs ***AND*** the FCC on their backs… so city folks folks will either quit radio or move out to the country.

If you want an analogy to what seems to be going on here in the amateur radio world... just ask any model airplane pilot about the FAA’s new rules in the post-9/11 era.  Not good.

As a final note:  There will ALWAYS be stealth antenna installations.  Does everyone on this thread drive the speed limit?  I rest my case.

He reads his research notes about end fed MFJ vertical antennas with loading coals that don't need radials. The motion is carried.  The attorney announces that the Board is now fully compliant with the new ruling.  The meeting adjourns.
