Proposed Recommendation to start an initiative towards *

*Morse Code Telegraphy as UNESCO Intangible Heritage*

*(JARL)*

The above documents are available at:

and at http://www.iaru-r3.org/16r3c/docs/026a%20UNESCO%20CW%20Heritage.pdf

Norbert Gabriel not sure if you are aware of the above that shows JARL
(Japan's Amateur Radio League) is supporting this effort and called on
other national amateur radio societies in ITU Region 3 at the current
finishing International Amateur Radio Union Region 3 Conference in Bali
to put this forward to the UNESCON Intangible Heritage Committee too.
Let's hope they do, we need to follow up on this in this part of the world.

Thanks Stan Barr, reminding of the history of the origin of HIHI which
is actually should be sent as HEE HEE (I usually send it that way and
leave a longer pause after the H - but remember in the 70/80s many SSB
operators would say "Hi Hi" for laughter, not sure if they still do
being mostly on CW), and pointing out about VE/SN going back far, indeed
it must then have been used by some services while amateurs (at least in
the 70s/80s) tended to use it as "ahem"-sort-of-thing -- and R/Os too?
