John,

Over on the right are the PDF files of radio logs from my ship
WILLIAMSBURGH and EXXON NEW ORLEANS as well as a letter from the Radio
Officer of SOHIO INTREPID.
Videos of Prinsendam news coverage and Air Force recovery videos:

I enclose a spreadsheet of the WILLIAMSBURGH log - the first hour or so.
DDD SOS SOS SOS DDD - the DDD signal - sent as one group was the
International ITU signal to send for relays of SOS. Only the ship in
distress could send SOS SOS SOS all others - ships and coast stations had
to relay the signal by using DDD SOS SOS SOS DDD and of course, it was a
general call addressed to ALL so it was directed to CQ and not CP which was
a restricted call.
BV means "Bon Voyage".
73 ES BV OM was a common statement sent to a fellow R/O (Radio Officer)
when he was leaving port or when passing while underway.
BV is also used to sending an in memoriam mention to a deceased radio
officer or radioman.
W1YT a fellow R/O recently passed away. 73 ES BV dear friend, you have
earned your solid gold Vibroplex.
