My post had nothing to particularly with the quality or beauty of these products (although they are very high in both regards), rather the irony that a very expensive Morse Code key can enjoy such popularity.

In 1990 the FCC announced the first amateur license which didn't require a test in Morse Code.

The laments from the IOoDHW were heard across the land --- "This is the end of Amateur Radio" ---  at that time there were 2 or 3 small volume "basement artisans" building collector-class keys.  With the "death" of Morse, surely that market will dry up and die.

This weekend at Dayton, a quarter century later, no less than four thriving companies (Begali, Kent, N3ZN, Vibroplex) were doing a land office business selling exquisitely designed and very expensive Morse keys to guys and gals who never passed a code test in their life.

I declare that the IOoDHW (International Order of Dismayed Hand Wringers) were dead wrong about the death of Amateur Radio.
