Nea Makri Naval Station / NGR was one of the last USN stations on Morse. I
don't know why but the only frequency that was listed in ACP 129 Allied
Naval Controll of Shipping Communications Procedures was that we could
contact NGR on what was the local 8 MHz frequency of SVA - Athens Radio -
simplex - using the same frequency to transmit and also to receive (most
ship communications on Morse was duplex - transmitting on one frequency
listening on another frequency.

But with Athens Radio sending "VVV VVV VVV CQ CQ CQ DE SVA SVA SVA QSX 4 6
8 12 16 22 MHZ OBS QRU? K" it could get very noisy!

Hats off for the guys in Nea Makri for hearing my calls at all! I could
understandably only get them from the Med Sea.

We had to send US Merchant Reports to either USCG or USN stations only and
not anyone else - so over in the Med and other places it was kind of
difficult to get some of the USCG stations, although San Juan / NMR and
Guam / NRV were always very good listeners it seemed.
