BUT STEVE

YOUR HAND WAS NOT ON THE BUG!

MY ONLY COMMERCIAL TRANSMISSION WAS USING A HAND KEY TO SEND A SHIPS LIST AT KLC.

I CANT RECALL FOR SURE BUT AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT ON 500 KHZ/HF THE MF FREQ WAS EITHER 478 OR 484.  I THINK ONE WAS WNU AND THE OTHER KLC.

WISH I HAD NOT LET MY T2 EXPIRE IN 1991.

Excellent - you'll still be in a select group.   It was a fun experience to be taking an exam in the early 21st century that covered technology of the early 20th century.

I have put the license to use once so far:  I traveled to Point Reyes, California to operate the living-history coast radio station KSM/KPH.

The attached photo shows me manually sending a message in Morse code on 500 kHz at one of the operating positions:

IE XXX XXX XXX CQ DE KSM KSM KSM PACIFIC HIGH SEAS WEATHER QSW 426/HF AR

In years gone by this message would have advised ship radio operators (all monitoring 500 kHz for emergencies) that a special weather advisory was about be sent on 426 kHz - which I later sent using a computer to key the transmitters on 426 kHz and all the HF channels.  After all, the text of a weather report for the entire Pacific Ocean is pretty long!  No one wants bad weather, but in a way I'm glad there was a typhoon in the western Pacific so I could get on 500 kHz with the special advisory.

Good luck!

Hello!

I found your 2013 post regarding the radio telegraph license while searching for information on that subject. I, too, think that it would be a fun to earn a T license whether I use it or not. It will take me a couple of weeks to learn and pass Elements 1 and 6... and find someone to administer the Telegraph Elements. Will let you know if/when I pass the tests.
