Whitey,

Yes, words to live by even today. Sadly, not much is made these days to be
repaired and as Brettonwoods have come and gone, everything is is made to be disposable.
I think we shall see a resurgence in those tenets...by forces beyond the average folks hand.

To me, guys like you, your Dad and Uncle are giants, and one would be hard pressed
to find adults these days in many places.

Many thanks for the awesome piece of history.

Merry Christmas.

Mike

Mike .... thanks ..

Living through the war ... 4 years ... from 9 to 13 years old .. all the young men from our neighborhood gone ... some never returned ....

My father and uncles worked in the shipyard in Quincy Ma... 13 days straight.... then one day off ....3 shifts around the clock ....... for 4 years ...

.... rationing of every thing....gas 6 gallons a week ... all food ... meat .....milk .. tires ... shoes ... oil or coal to heat your home ... a 9 year old with no bubble gum for 4 years !!

It affected how I lived and thought for my whole life ... conserve everything ...waste nothing.....anything breaks ... fix it ..... .. wear it out ... do without ....

Richard Dillman posted 2 photos in Radio Telegraph Operators . Richard Dillman December 7 at 1:35pm 7 December 1941. A quiet Sunday at coast station KPH, Frank Geisel on watch. Follow the unfolding events of that infamous day as told in these two pages of the original KPH log, culminating in URGENT TO ALL US MERCHANT SHIPS FROM COMMANDER IN CHIEF PACIFIC AIRRAID ON PEARL HARBOR HOSTILITIES WITH JAPAN COMMENCED WITH AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR THIS IS NOT DRILL and TO ALL MERCHANT - EXECUTE WPL (war plan) FORTY SIX AGAINST JAPAN. Put yourself in the place of the men who, disbelievingly, heard these messages in their earphones, yet kept their log in the professional way they always had. Let us always remember.
