[CW] Another bug weight question

     I have a very old Vibroplex, c.early 1920s. My question 
is about a peculiar wear pattern on the weights. The holes 
in both weights have been worn in a sort of bi-conical 
pattern, that is wider at the openings than in the center. 
The odd thing is that there is  no corresponding marking on 
the pendulum rod.  The only explanation I can think of is 
that this key spent its life aboard ships with reciprocating 
engines and the constant vibration caused the wear.  At 
least maybe.  Has anyone else encountered this?   The key 
was obviously "rid hard and put away wet" but it cleaned up 
well and works very smoothly. I always wonder about the 
history of old objects like this.
