Subject: [CW] Keying a radio with a short-circuited J-38?

Actress playing French SOE of WWII in a 2008 French movie
“Les Femmes de
l'Ombre” had shorted the terminals of an American J-38
telegraph key in the
course keying a wireless set; how could that be as it was
not a landline
closed-circuit system? Click to see the picture:

I think it has always been pretty common for movies to
be somewhat sloppy about detail, especially historical
detail. The objects become almost symbolic and the
assumption is that the audience will be naive, as it usually
is. Its the drama and story that counts, or should.
A lot of us are of an age where things we thought would
be constants are beyond the experience and comprehension of
people sometimes even just a little younger. It can be
rather disturbing.
