[CW] Vibroplex Lightning seen in "The Unit"

In VR2 land, active CW hams are not pretty much. I do on air quite often
but do not have a beam antenna to work the east coast under fair
propagation.
In BY territories, most junior hams prefer contest type working by means of
keyboard CW; aged hams who are proficient in manual CW mostly veterans of
the armed forces.
What you described the "long swim" was actually the "great escape" in 1962,
some of those swimmers became really rich in the subsequent years.
