Hi Whitey! I am surprise! I never imagine that Marconi's Daughter its a Ham Radio Op. That's wonderful.
Well. I am 23 years old man and I hold my licence since 2002, almost eleven years, and I meet hundreds of interesting people including veterans of II WW and several conflicts. But also have friends at the same town of Bono *U2 leader and singer*. I know that Priscilla Presley had a K6 licence. And many others.
Maybe you can explain better that me this wonderful hobby.

Frank .... thanks ... Some of the famous musicians here in the states were hams ....
This is wonderful hobby .... we have the 1903 Historic Marconi Station here nearby on Cape Cod ..... I have met two of Marconi's daughters....
Gioia and Elettra .... Gioia is no longer with us .... Elettra has come to Cape Cod for several events celebrating her father's radio accomplishments...
We have made many close friendships through amateur radio .... In 2015 I will be licensed for 60 years as a ham ... !!!!!!!!
Keep pounding that key !!

Hello Whitey! Its amazing but the best telegraph radio men at II World War was Musicians. Yes, as you hear now. Mostly of CW Operators have a GOOD EAR for music.
Isn't great?

Dave ....
We moved to East Sandwich in Dec 2011 ... I did not get a temporary HF station set up for almost 2 years ....
When I first started working CW again ... I was surprised ... My ability to "COPY" CW did not suffer ....
But my manual dexterity with the paddles on my "touch" keyer did .... I had to practice some before I felt comfortable on the air ..
It is commonly thought that intelligence has nothing to do with the ability to copy CW ...... Supposedly Musicians are "better" at it....
Something I have noticed in my 59 years of ham radio .......there are no dopes that are real good at it ....

Remember, Richard,
If you're not on the air for a while, you're speed goes down. Even after nearly 50 years of doing this, often for 8 to 12 hours a day every day on ship, I now operate about an hour a day. I did some QRQ, maybe it was just my uncoordinated day, but I could not send 45 wpm on the paddles. I did better on the bug, but even the bug didn't sound really good like it did the last time I used it. Forget the hand key, rotten code. Sideswiper worked fine though - I guess it is an easy key to send with. I found it so on ship, the vibrations didn't bother it, and you could rattle off 30 to 35 wpm easily. I admit it is easier to send 35 with a bug for a few hours though.
First the Sending goes, then the copying, then the memory goes, then ... ... ... I forget.
