[CW] Alberto Frattini pro bug

I just received Alberto's "prestige" chrome bug. Basically a chromed version of his "magnetico" brass bug. I have some experience in restoring automobiles and motorcycles, and have been deeply involved with restoring chrome and all sorts of metals. Brass is a much better metal to chrome plate. It will maintain much better over it's lifetime. Regardless of whatever you may be plating, the real key to success is proper prep work. Prep work for chrome involves polishing to utter perfection. Plating over ANY defects will only enhance those defects and they will be seen under that shiny chrome plating. I actually know a fellow local, who perfected Black chrome and I used it on a project some years ago. Sorry, I'm getting a bit side tracked here. Alberto's workmanship is comparable to fine workmanship you would expect to see on an automobile restored to Pebble Beach concours standards. You really need to see one of his keys up close and personal to fully
appreciate just what I mean. I have developed a kinship with Alberto over the last several years. His command of English is much better than my Italian, but you need to keep comms simple and concise with him. I came up with an idea for a very special J-36 which is in Alberto's lineup. The project took about a year to complete, as we did some special plating to a steel base which Alberto made for me. Albertto built the base, shipped it to me, I then shipped it back east for a special treatment to another fellow, who shipped it back to me, whereby I shipped it to another fellow in Oregon for another treatment, and finally back to Alberto to complete the key. I plan to pair this key with a very special little vintage CW only transmitter I am currently restoring. I think you guys will really appreciate the end result, and I will gladly share photos at that time. If anyone lives near Seattle and would like to see some of Alberto's work up close, drop me a
line.

Those were really oustanding pictures of a nice machine, too. If one had
the machining capability. there is almost enough there to just simply copy
it . Hmmmm wonder if I could make one out of wood??? hehe

I believe that Alberto offers a nickel plated version of this key - or
nickel/chrome. That should protect the underlying brass.
You could also ask him if he can machine this out of steel then
copper/nickel/chrome plate the steel as steel is much stronger (and
much more difficult to machine) than brass.
