Subject: [CW] Two New Single-Lever Paddles
The summit of single lever paddles is the Begali Sculpture Mono http://www.i2rtf.com/html/sculpture_mono.html which sells for €425. It is quite simply superb.
I hadn't been favorably impressed by the action of the original Begali HST Single Lever and I sold mine. Now the HST Mark II has appeared. Its fingerpiece is similar in shape to that on the Sculpture Mono, which is tall enough to allow for a variety of paddling techniques, including using the pointer-finger knuckle in combination with the thumb. The Mark II has a shorter lever than the original HST and it uses magnetic return force and race bearings. I haven't had a chance to try out the HST Mark II, but it appears to be a significant improvement over the HST. I assume that it will be available to try out at the Dayton Hamvention. The HST Mark II http://www.i2rtf.com/html/hst.html sells for €218.
I've owned a Begali Simplex Mono http://www.i2rtf.com/html/simplex_mono.html for some time. It was the single-lever paddle with two fingerpieces that converted me to single-lever paddling. It's at my operating position still, right next to the Sculpture Mono. The Simplex Mono sells for €150 with silver contacts. Mine has optional gold contacts installed, which cost an additional €30.
Now Begali is selling a new Mono Basic paddle with silver contacts http://www.i2rtf.com/html/mono_basic.html for €130. Since the Mono Basic is mechanically identical to the Simplex Mono, I can recommend it highly.
