I wonder if anyone on this list has some dates when the D German block of
call signs went through changes.
Here is the current ITU call sign assignments direct from the ITU web site:

I was very strange in my mind that almost as soon as East German got a ITU
license block away from the D German block, it was Y2 through Y9, that the
forces of change united the German people. It must have been wonderful for
those people who lived long enough to see Berlin united, to see families who
could see each other from their windows and wave, but who could not visit
for so long at the end. I hope we learn from this, one of USA's partners in
this could not be trusted, but then again, how could we fall for the trick
that the Wall in Berlin was for defense when the guns were pointed INSIDE as
they were in Communist countries. I hope never again, no where is this to
happen that guns point inside to control the people as it makes a nation
into a prison.
D used to be all German call signs going back to the 1912 ITU London
conference that introduced national call signs. Previously call signs were
only national in significance and meaning.
I remember working DM call signs, but I am sure I was not very active during
the time when the Y2 stations were having fun on the air. I did work many
Y4AA through Y4ZZ ships on the commercial bands though.
It's a fascinating subject. I tried to find out how Korea was issued part
of the original all German DAA-DZZ block and found lots of web sites
reminding me of how Korea was part of Japan after 1910. How fast things
have changed. Of course at the same time the Philippines were part of the
USA and later had USA call signs.
But let's just go with the German call sign changes - can anyone give me any
leads on this or does anyone remember the dates?
