Sincere thanks for sharing the Rudyard Kipling short story. Kipling is my favorite all time author and ironically I never knew about this piece!

The extra punctuation (question marks) in the transcription you provided on this reflector is consistent with what I have sometimes experienced when using text scanning software. Though I cannot explain where the superfluous punctuation appears from I believe it may be a function of how the scanning software interprets variations on typeface used in books.
