Yes that reduces the contact jitter (bouncing contacts) but it also reduces
the "push back" of the spring. So readjustment is always needed.
I haven't come to the conclusion if it is really better or not. I do like
the idea of Ted McElroy's "dot pre-tensioner" which was an "L" shaped piece
of metal which tensed the dot spring and acted as a damper for the
vibrations which appeared on his 1939 McElroy Deluxe bug.
