I think everything you describe is an inevitable transition.
Amateur radio is bound to become more and more "amateur". Not a bad thing, just a fact.
Historically Amateur radio included in it's midst a significant portion of Professional radiomen from the military, press, and merchant radio services, and thus those "professional" morse skills and habits were continuously refreshed in the Amateur service.
Welcome to Amateur radio. 50 years I've been at it, and still as much fun as ever, just in new and different ways.
