Hello Joe,
CWops was spurned on by what many thought was improper treatment of a few
FOC members who resigned in protest. Ironically those were the people that
the invitation letter failed to go to! Of course that caused some hard
feelings - especially because CWops was created to eliminated what many
perceived to be an unresponsive and secret FOC Committee. I hope that this
ironic twist at the start of CWops will make an impression on the club.
It is ironic that four or five of the founders will have CWops numbers in
the hundreds while the rest of the founders will be in the first twenty.
I did suggest that the entire membership base be slid upwards to make room
for the forgotten founders who were somehow dropped from the invitation - of
course there's more to the problem but this is enough for public
information.
The best irony is that one the two EU operators who were the propelling
reason given for starting the club were dropped among the rest of the
"forgotten".
So an interesting beginning.
I wanted the club to be called ICW - which has many historic meanings -
Interuppted Continuous Wave - going back to the 1920s, I (do) CW, etc, but
this was not adopted by the group. I also wanted to have the 17 wpm
requirement that FOC had but this also was not adopted.
The club is modeled on FOC with improvements and changes. Unlike FOC this
is a speed key club.
