Navy Radiomen didn't know what the heck a pencil was. Everything was copied
on an Underwood Model 5 typewriter, no lower case.
I already knew Morse (as a ham with a pencil) when I joined the Navy, and
that was a huge disadvantage in radio school, since copying on a mill is a
completely different skill, especially since you didn't copy legible words
(in your head like a ham) but 5-letter coded groups.
Hams and Navy Morse operators have little in common, unless the ham is a
Morse traffic handler who uses a typewriter.

> You all have good ideas...
> 1. Use a ball point pen...less drag
> 2. If printing upper case, letter E is a backward 3, one pen stoke.
> 3. In Military training we only pencil copy to 18 wpm, then to the mill.
> 4. If you must copy, practice using keyboard into MS Word, not pencil and
> paper.
> 5. Don't react so quickly to each morse element...copy behind a little
> bit.
> 6. I.e. concentrate. Let the code pass thru your head before writing it

> 7. Listening to code faster than you can actually copy will help increase
