A remarkable thing happened today. Week before last, on ebay, I bid on a
near-mint Electrophysics Autronic keyer. I already had one, but it was not
even close to very good condition. If you are unfamiliar with this unit,
it is a solid-state Germanium-transistorized (NO ICs) keyer brought out in
1961-probably as a companion for their Autronic paddle.
Well, I REALLY lucked out (I felt) on the auction and won the unit for $46
shipped. I was very pleased all the way around. Little did I know
So, the unit came in late last week. I have been REALLY busy with work, and
had not opened the package until today. It was in wonderful condition-at
least as nice as described, and close to near-mint. But THATs not what
was so remarkable. In the bottom of the box, below the well-wrapped keyer
were the following:
· Not 1 but 2 original, four page (one sheet, folded in half with a
page on each ¼ side) manuals
· An 11 x 16 original schematic
· An original 8 ½ x 11 two-sided Autronics paddle & keyer brochure
· A reprint (likely reprinted by Electrophysics) of the OCT 1961
review on the keyer on the same slick paper QST used
NONE of the above was mentioned in the ebay listing. While I already had 1
Autronic keyer, and 2 of the paddles (same kind of thing: I bought the 2nd
one because it was advertised as mint and it was) I did not have the 1st
piece of paper. I am absolutely thrilled!!!
