The Internet is 20, I mean the WWW - World Wide Web.

The original "first page" of the Internet is lost to the memories of those
who were there (I was just playing with e-mail and using my IBM PC - a
supercharged 10 MHz 8088 chip with a 1200 baud modem and CD-ROM to telephone
connected computers - BBS - nearby - until I got interested around 1993 in
getting a faster modem - 28 k at the time.

Take a look at the 1992 Home Page of the Internet (the 1990 version is lost)
http://www.w3.org/History/19921103-hypertext/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

Here is a time line - and be sure to check out the links at the bottom of
the page.

Gopher? WAIS? Veronica? Archie? What is a Gopher Hole - and how deep can
you borrow? These questions are known to very few these days - the WWW took
over.

Mac Users still have Gopher access for all their browsers - but in PC
world, Internet Explorer and Opera have dropped Gopher and WAIS abilities.

Archie was the first search engine - and still indexes about 200 Gopher
holes. http://www.isrl.illinois.edu/~chip/projects/timeline/1990archie.htm

Jughead gopher://hal3000.cx:3000/7
Veronica gopher://hal3000.cx:2347/7

Try those links with Seamonkey or Firefox!

Here is another OLD web page still in use - http://sdf.lonestar.org/

Telnet, Shell account?

Spark sets? CW? We start to sound old.

Another fun thing to do is telnet into your SMTP and POP server and send
and receive email with just a prompt.
