David, Alpine is in the repository for Debian based distros. It has some 
strange libs attached to it. You might want to look at Claws, its Mutt 
on steroids with a gui and it does gmail. Google is your friend for 
Claws. Still in beta but worth a look-see. I never did get the hang of Pine.

I dumped Wine when I got this new box, you might want to take a look at 
fldigi, its here ::

Just install the binary, you will need libhamlib2 and libportaudio2, the 
CW decoder is one of the best I've seen.

Just so this email concerns CW in some way, I've used a Kent single 
lever paddle for 20 years and wouldn't trade it for anything else.
