I process code I hear as speaking a new language and I don't "see"
anything. The advantage here is there are only 26 words in the new
language. I think I do this because I am lazy. It was easy in the "old
days," when you had to keep a log. I would write down the call, listen for
RST and then write the numbers down the numbers. I then added the name and
it became easier not to write than to do so. After the practice, practice,
practice, the words began to pop out and I hear the words an any speed.
Calls are the hardest part in the higher speeds (and I understand the
phrase higher speeds is variable.) Calls are not logical words and you have
to copy the letters.
Desire and practice helps. Remember, at our ages, the words desire is
variable, leaving you more time to practice code.

"You see, wire telegraph is kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his
tail
in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles.
Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send
signals here, they receive them there.
The only difference is that there is no cat."
