Bob, as a general rule, Joe's warning is sound and should be followed.
To get the details, though (in case there's an inquiring mind..) the
winmail.dat that you referenced first is a formatting file.

A quick Google search gave me this:

When an Outlook user composes and sends a message using either Rich Text
Format or HTML Format, Outlook automagically generates a file,
winmail.dat, and attaches it to the end of the message. winmail.dat
contains formatting information, in a human-unreadable form, that
Outlook will use on the receiving end to display this email message
correctly. Unfortunately, Outlook is the ONLY email client program that
can use this information! Netscape Messenger, Eudora*, and other email
client programs don't understand this information.

I'm not sure what the SMIMME.P75 is, but I'd guess it's related to
Secure MIME (maybe SMIME.p75??)

An any case, not opening is the best solution.  Although you probably
don't have any programs associated with those files (makes it hard to
open by clicking on it), it's always best to play it safe.

Every now and then I get attachmemnts in mail  from the list and also
yahoo list This one has wimail,dat (32.1KB) Not  long ago I opened one
and received  this
C:\DOCUME~OWNER\MYDOC~1\SMIMME.P75
I mailed the person and asked what  it was but he never responded.
