The Bunnell Double Speed Key (their name for what we call "side
swiper") had a base for sale.  I found mounting the key directly on a
desk put the lolipop finger piece the smallest possible distance -
nearly touching but not quite - above the desk.

It cleared the desk but it was just so strange to have a knob that
low.  I saw they had a base for it which would put the knob up in
height about an inch and one half inches higher.  I had a machinest
make me such a base.
