[CW] Code Stuff - like the CW bands!

Yes, that's true in theory.

But in practice, if you call CQ using CW in the 'phone subbands, I don't 
think you will get many answers in CW. 


 I think a lot of hams think that we are restricted to the CW only 
portions!!!  

I disagree. It's just that for a very long time it has been considered good 
practice not to do CW in the 'phone subbands except in special circumstances, 
such as when conditions degrade during a 'phone QSO.

And while we're on the subject, please note that there are *no* "CW-only" 
portions of the HF amateur bands in the USA. None at all - there's all shared 
with all the data modes. The only "CW-only" subbands are, ironically, 50.0 to 
50.1 and 144.0 to 144.1 MHz.

II have had discussions with more than a few hams (usually 'phone ops) who 
think that there are parts of the HF ham bands reserved for CW only. Some of 
them were those proposing widening the 'phone bands!
