[CW] ?"Morse Therapy"

Yes, I remember one fellow at Port Said Radio, SUP who could send like
a machine gun with the safety off if he wanted to. And he could
handle the bug - no errors - that's the key.

I can send 60 wpm on a paddle - but I can't send flawless code for a
minute - I make errors. Same with receiving, I've heard bursts of
100 wpm code and recognized a word or two but I can't copy it. I can
recognize my call sign in baudot as well - I know the sound of it, as
I do RYRYRY64646464 - but if you sent one letter, I'd never know what
it was. I can also get CQ CQ CQ by the sound.

The South Americans who send on a hand key often achieve extremely
fast speeds. Perhaps it is because they could afford nothing fancier.
A good friend of mine, WA1OMI, Mike has only used a hand key for his
whole life - about 40 years of amateur radio. He was taught by a Navy
chief when he decided to go for his Extra and the quality of his Morse
shows it. Very fast and accurate. I'd be hard pressed to do as well
on a Vibroplex and he uses a hand key. Just like those South
Americans, he's never used anything else!
