Thats great Don, and all in the great tradition of Amateur Radio. Many of
us simply are not going to put in the time and effort to do it. Many have
no real capability of finding the parts, to start with. Others, even though
they have passed so-called technical tests, havent the experience to
recognize needed parts, or how they work.

I cant imagine the hours you spent; looking for them, cleaning them, and
tying them all together. But then- how effective are they - in digital
capability, multiple inputs, digital readout, etc.? I know some guys do
have all that thrown in. That would take even longer, and be more costly.
Even back in the latter days of Heathkit - fewer and fewer hams were
building their own. Heath just didnt compare with the new Japanese stuff
coming out - either in price, and capabilities. Exactly why they went out
of the business.

Beyond Heathkit transmitters and amps; pretty much, my homebrew experience
has been solid state QRP - and of course antennas. Sadly, today, many hams
dont even feel adaquate to throw together a dipole antenna - if you can
believe the number of ads out there selling complete, put-together
antennas.
