You are surely going to get a lot of different opinions John. I SUSPECT
that, if it's as good on CW as everything else about it, the Elecraft K3 is
likely to be as good as anything ever made-provided you get all the various
roofing/etc. etc. filters. I don't KNOW because I've never even played with
one... but I sure like the specs.
Now, that said, you then have to discuss $$$. For MY money, I don't think
there's anything that matches the Ten Tec OMNI VI+ - again with all the
filters they made for it. I owned an OMNI VI years ago, and have never seen
its better for the sweetest CW breakin you could ask for. I only sold it
because I really prefer tubes/etc. and found I simply was not using it at
all-in favor of my EFJ Ranger II with B&W T/R Switch, and whatever the
receiving flavor of the day/week/month. I feed an HF receiving multicoupler
from the receiver output of the T/R SW, and hence can have several receivers
online simultaneously. The breakin you have with a T/R SW is ~ as good as
that of the OMNI VI.
