You won't be able to hear W1AW on vhf. You can only hear them about
50 miles from Newington, CT on vhf. I cannot hear them here in SE
Massachusetts, although I can hear them on 10 meters.
MFJ makes a "Jim Handy" which is a very well made device. Be prepared
for sticker shock - it is about $80, but it does the job exactly, and
yes, I did buy one because I was sick of holding my microphone up to a
squeeky code oscillator. Now I sound good on 2 meter FM with the
local boys who get on MCW on both 146,58 simplex and via a local
repeater!
