Hi All
Just signed up on the cw mailing list and thought it would be appropriate to
introduce myself.
My name is Bill ZL3NB located in Christchurch New Zealand. I was originally
licensed in 1966 at the age of 15 yrs old with WN3GLX in Philadelphia PA
where I was born and raised. Upgraded to WA3GLX in 1967 and still do hold
the call.
Been living in ZL since February 1986...It's a long story but the US Navy
and Operation Deep Freeze had something to do with it plus not many survived
3 years here 1971-74 without getting married to a lovely Kiwi Girl like I
did...Hi
Despite all the moaning and groaning on the cw issue I must admit I love it!
Here in ZL when the requirement was dropped. It made some difference to the
flow of new HF operators. But funny enough those wanting to operate SSB on
HF with 100W and having troubles working Dx at this stage of the cycle are
now wanting to learn cw. I wonder why?
Originally as a Novice back in 66 I hated it but managed to scrape by 13WPM
to pass the General. Thought I would never use it again till of course
realized low power and AM/SSB was not going to cut the mustard in pile ups
so started using it again. When I went into the US Navy and went to Radioman
school in Bainbridge MD the 10WPM test was a breeze and later on went to RM
C School for Immedicate High Speed Morse code school aka RM2304 where I
learnt 30WPM using a Mill (Typewriter to newbies)....Since then I have never
looked back with cw which now occupies 90 percent of my on-air activity.
I am very active on 160 through 10 meters. Enjoy rag chewing to chasing dx.
Look forward to contributing to the list.
