Eric and others -
Do a test some day - determine the frequency you like to listen while
you're sending to then note the frequency. Then determine the
frequency you tune to, write down the frequency. Then with QRM or QRN
find the frequency you tune to and write it down.
Many people like different frequencies for different things - it is
well known that the human ear (are there any non-humans out there?)
has an ability to separate lower pitched tones better than higher
pitched tones and that the "psych-acoustic" filter in our ear/brain is
sharpest around 200 Hz. So under lots of QRM, we tend to tune to a
lower note, With side tone, we often tune so that the speaker
resonates or vibrates!
