For really dirty contacts, I have always used Brasso and a cotton swab.
For touching up,  I swipe a paper business card through the closed contacts
several times.

I guess it really depends on how active you are with the key.  Back when I
was on the air a lot,  frequent use kept them from tarnishing up.
