Hello Jeramy,
Welcome to the CW Reflector.
I agree with what others have said about being labeled a lid.
Think you'll find that CW operators are among the most courteous
you will encounter on the air. Everyone gets the butterflies at
first, but keep in mind that for most CW ops, working someone
new to CW will make their whole day.
I noticed you're in Oklahoma. There is a slow speed traffic
and training net, the 'Oklahoma Training Net', at 5:45 pm daily,
on 7.12065 MHz. The net control is WB5NKD, Pat, in Oklahoma City.
Also, the Texas Slow Net meets at 8 pm at nightly, on 3.719 MHz.
The net control is WB5NKC, Arley, also in Oklahoma City (who also
happens to be Pat's husband). The Texas Slow Net will move to
3.592 MHz effective November 1.
Feel free to check into either of these nets, or email me if you'd
like a sked (I'm in Central Texas). I frequently check into TSN.
Feel free to call me after the net completes. Regular participation
in a net is good, steady practice.
I recommend beginning with a straight key instead of a keyer and
paddles. I think that makes it alot easier to start. (Others differ
on this, though).
There are a couple online groups you may enjoy:
Straight Key Century Club

QRS-CW · QRS Slow Speed CW Group

Hope this helps!
