Mine has slightly-raised characters in brass, with a black background
behind and around them. They're all in a line, just as I showed them in
my post. I could pull out the digicam and get an image if anyone
particularly wants it.

The whole tag reads

          SIGNAL CORPS, U. S. ARMY
              KEY TYPE J-36
Order 10647-WF-43 Date 1-28-43 Serial No. 208
                  MADE BY
          THE VIBROPLEX CO., INC.
        803 BROADWAY, NEW YORK, N. Y.

The first two lines are in bold type, all caps.
The third is condensed, so that it will all fit
on the line, and in mixed case.
The fourth is tiny, the fifth is a bit larger,
and the sixth is tiny.

The actual serial number is stamped into an unpainted rectangle
just inside the right margin and just below the right rivet or
drive-pin.
