NTI a new group has been formed in anticipation of the new "no code"
licenses.
According to Dwayne Twaddle, Executive Director, there just isn't a need for
a theory test as part of the amateur licensing process.
Twaddle says: "The Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard just don't use radio
operators anymore. Whatever equipment they have is inteligent equipment
using the latest ionospheric sounding proceedures to provide frequency
hopping. It is all automatic. It takes zero skill to operate it.
He added that the FCC's commercial licenses aren't needed at radio stations
like TV, FM and AM, so there is no longer a need for the Amateur service to
provide trained technicians as there was prior to 1980 when such licenses
were required.
Why should someone know Ohm's Law - they're never going to use it. The same
thing could be said about every portion of the Amateur examination - except
the International and FCC rules and regulations.
We advocate doing away entirely with the theory testing. Whatever
regulatory knowledge is needed is very little and modern equipment can be
programmed to only transmit on whatever bands a licensee is licensed for.
We also anticipate doing away with different license classes - these were
founded on elitism, which is a snobbery which is distasteful in amateur
service. There is absolutely no need for any of this knowledge. It is
simply useless.
"We must get rid of any reminder of elitism, knowing morse code, passing
harder theory. It is really a "horse and buggy" way of doing things that is
no longer needed or even valid.
Twaddle anticipates an early adoption of his NTI's aims and he has the
popular support of such organizations such as NCI and other main stream
groups.
