[CW] Morse Gone?

I do not know the future. I would imagine that CW contests will continue
for the time being, which will help keep CW alive for a few years. When I
received my Novice, in 1977, I learned the code and was proud to say I knew
it. To this day, I am proud to say that I learned it and know it. I
upgraded to General in 1980 and had to pass 13 WPM. I became silent for a
few years after passing my Advanced Class and upon returning in 1999, my
code speed was still around 13-14 WPM. Now, 7+ years later, without being
required, I am clearly in the 30+ WPM range and faster during contests. The
point is, I could have given up the code and focused on Phone/SSB, since
clearly I was not required to do so when I passed my Extra. But I love it.
I can only hope that new operators will be encouraged to give it a try,
since for me, it is one of the funnest aspects of the hobby.
Regardless as to my feelings or opinion, it is what it is. So, if you like
CW, like I do, encourage fellow hams to give it a try. It is a ton of fun
and the mode works very well for DX and in heavy QRM.
