Not at all.
The last time I saw the results

I wasn't talking about overall national standards and I
wasn't talking about international averages.
The discussion was about how US schools have supposedly
deteriorated over the past generation or so. My observation
is about how well children I know personally are educated,
compared to how well educated I was at their ages and grade
levels.
Standardized testing is a different issue completely. It lumps
everybody in an area or country into one pile. Can you compare
how the USA ranked 30-40 years ago with how it ranks today?

Maybe. But I was referrring to children in my local public schools.
My own direct experience with these kids goes back to when they
were in preschool.

How so?
I don't claim that my experience is universal - some public school
systems are, as I said, "goshawful". Others are excellent. Simply
lumping all of them together is not fair at all. Nor is it accurate.
I recall how my generation was a cause of great concern to some
because of the "hippies" and such. Before the hippies were the
"beatniks" and such.

I hope you're right but I also think we must oppose
those who would continue to reduce the mode's viability
by reducing the usability of the bands for CW.
